SPECIAL PROJECTS PATCHWORK & QUILTING

These days most patchwork fabric manufacturers print new collections in a single print run. The pre-production designs are presented to retailers and, when all the orders are received, the manufacturer decides how much fabric to print (additional print runs do happen, but are rare). Often, along with the new fabric designs, there are quilts and other projects to show the fabrics at their best and how they work as a collection. Buying fabric is a tricky (but enjoyable!) task given that we need to consider it will be a one-off purchase. When it comes to kitting quilts this task is far more difficult, mostly because the fabric usage can vary hugely. For example, there may be a large quantity of a particular fabric used for the background or border. So, we don’t try to double-guess which quilts might be popular. That is the purpose of this catalogue: for you to see what is coming in the future and order kits that, most likely, will be unavailable when the fabric is released. Note that some kits may be available now where we are reasonably confident we can get more fabric. As you look through this catalogue, if you like a particular kit you can click through to our website to pre-order it. Many of these collections are presented months in advance of their release so you are never charged for a pre-order kit until it is cut and ready to despatch to you. Please note that the release dates are approximate. These are difficult times and collections can be delayed, for many reasons, beyond the anticipated date. Journey to the stars! The Nebula Block-of-the-Month programme will allow to create this kaleidoscopic quilt centre set against a beautiful, radiating background in pastel tones. The quilt uses two rulers, the Hex N More and the Super Sidekick ruler to create 9 unique blocks, each used twice in the quilt centre.. The strip piecing method used with these rulers means there are no tricky Y-seams to deal with. Purchase of the rulers is not essential as paper templates are included within the pattern. 78 fabrics are used to complete the quilt centre. A further six fabrics are used to make the background setting blocks. The Queen size is 97" x 96".

The Block-of-the-Month programme begins mid-January 2021 with two further instalments in March and June. The first instalment includes the complete pattern plus fabrics for blocks 1 - 4. The March package includes fabrics for blocks 5 - 9 and then the background and binding fabrics (plus optional backing fabric) follow in June. The programme also includes a free swag bag and quilt label.

The optional rulers used to construct the quilt are available to buy now and you will find more details on our website, including video tutorials so you can see in advance if it is something you would like to try. Information on the three quilt size options can also be found online.

Join us for a colourful Kaffe Fassett Quiltalong in Summer 2021. Starting in July, the quiltalong runs for 6 weeks until mid August. During this time Free Spirit will be hosting a special Facebook group that will include special guest appearances offering advice and guidance, quiltalong support and giveaways. The kits on the following pages each include 15 fabrics from the Kaffe Fassett Collective for the quilt top and binding (backing not included), pattern with full colour instructions and diagrams for all four colourways plus an exclusive Kaffe Fassett Gathering no Moss Quiltalong Bag. 108” Sateen Quilt Backs

Suggested backing fabric quantities for kits are based on using a 108" wide with a directional print that runs from top to bottom, i.e. the length of the quilt runs parallel to the fabric selvedge. If you choose a non-directional 108" quilt back you may require less material if you assume the width of the quilt runs parallel to the selvedge. This assumes that the length of the quilt is less than 108", allowing for some excess. If you decide to pre-order a quilt back please make sure you are happy that the quantity you order is sufficient for your quilt.

Burano is an island in the Venetian Lagoon, part of the Metropolitan City of Venice, known for its lace work and brightly coloured houses, as well as its ancient church, the Chiesa di San Martino. It is also the location for Kaffe Fassett’s latest inspirational project book. Accent Quilts

Accent Bundles

Looking for a colour theme to kick-start a new project? Or, do you find choosing fabrics that work together a challenge, especially online? If so, then you are going to love our Accent fat quarter bundles! Each pack contains 8 carefully selected prints in a variety of different designs and scales unified by a colour theme. Most of our Accent bundles use fabrics from the Kaffe Fassett Collective although we do select from other designer collections from time to time.

The Old Garden

Alternatively, use the instructions included with each bundle to make your very own "Accents" quilt. Simply add binding and backing fabric to create a striking throw, wall hanging or lap quilt. Add another bundle (or three!) for a bigger quilt. Accent quilts made with a single bundle are approximately 36” x 45”. You will need an additional 25cm (single fold) or 35cm (double fold) for the binding and 1.25m of regular width fabric for the backing. The simple construction is suitable for quilters of any ability and is a great way to show off big, dramatic designs.
